At Stony Brook Medicine Women’s Health, we focus on preventive healthcare at every life stage.

Stony Brook provides expertise during a woman’s reproductive years and beyond. We provide highly specialized expertise in all areas of women’s health, including minimally invasive surgery options, innovative breast cancer care, individualized treatment plans for gynecological cancers, a new PCOS center, and comprehensive wellness initiatives for women from adolescence through the senior years.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

The benefits of minimally invasive surgery include: less bleeding, less pain (and less medication), reduced trauma to nerves and muscles, less chance of infection and much shorter recovery times.  At Stony Brook Women’s Health, whenever it is medically appropriate, we will always try to offer our patients minimally invasive surgery.

Among the minimally invasive procedures performed by these Stony Brook specialists are surgical treatments for:
•    endometriosis,
•    infertility,
•    fibroid tumors,
•    incontinence,
•    cervical cancer,
•    ovarian cancer and
•    endometrial cancer.

Maternal Fetal Medicine

Our maternal-fetal medicine specialists care for pregnancies that are both low and high risk, and conduct unique programs for managing complications in pregnancy, multiple births, placental abnormalities, fetal anomalies, genetic disorders, nutritional issues and infectious diseases. Our goal as caregivers is to provide a woman and her family with the critical support that she needs to deliver a healthy baby.

The Regional Perinatal Center (RPC) based at Stony Brook Medicine is a Level IV RPC (the highest level) associated with a Level III (the highest level) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and is the only RPC in Suffolk County, New York.

The center works to train the next generation of high-risk obstetrical and neonatal providers and to collaborate with affiliate hospitals in improving fetal, maternal and newborn services.

Complex Diagnosis

As part of a large Academic Medical Center, Stony Brook physicians have the expertise and experience to help our patients with diagnoses for conditions that are complex or difficult to diagnose. Their extensive backgrounds and multidisciplinary mindset enables them to support the most challenging cases.

To help our patients with the very common but harder to diagnose, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, Stony Brook has developed a dedicated PCOS program, with the goals of providing faster diagnoses, and easier access to an interdisciplinary group of specialists who can manage the various components of treatment.
